I loved the balloon pants trend that started gaining traction over the summer, but with my short-girl problems, I knew I would never be able to find a pair that fits my shorter inseam, and it’s not exactly a style that’s easy to alter. In Asia, however, that’s not a problem, since pants from Asian brands are typically designed to fit Asian body types. Going into our trip to Seoul and Tokyo, I knew I wanted to try to find a pair of billowy, drape-y balloon pants and was thrilled when I discovered these at my favorite shopping mall in Tokyo on our last day.

In my head, I associate the trend with summer dressing, but I wanted to challenge myself to make it work for colder weather somehow. That’s when I remembered this vintage leather blazer that my grandmother passed down to me few years ago sitting in my childhood bedroom closet waiting for its moment. Between the pants and the glove pumps, this outfit feels very Alaïa-coded, no? Come summer, I’ll be styling the pants with sleek flip flops, a simple tank, and statement jewelry.
