Elevated Sweats

I’ve been wanting a pair of the cult-favorite Tibi Winslow Pant — the brand’s version of a relaxed barrel-leg silhouette available in various materials — for about a year now, but even I couldn’t have predicted I would end up with the navy active knit version. I initially thought I’d go for the classic black or brown nylon, but if I’m going to spend this much on a pair of pants, they better fill a hole in my wardrobe that no other pants can. I have a ton of black and brown and even nylon pants — but I didn’t have anything navy.
The thing I love about these pants — aside from the slouchy shape that drapes effortlessly on the body — is the adjustable hem thanks to the snaps along the back. Tibi runs big and even in the size XS-short (a size down from my usual S), I need to tuck the back up four buttons. It’s not as clean of a solution as tailoring the hem outright, but as Amy Smilovic, founder and creative director of Tibi, explains, it allows the pants to retain the pooling in the front, so you still get that cool look. (You can watch her explaining the concept in the “Style Class Shorts” video here.) It’s a creative option that’s certainly better than nothing — I wish all trousers had this design feature.
I’ve been wearing the pants non-stop with these flats, my New Balance sneakers, and suede clogs, and was especially delighted to discover they’re a perfect color match with my favorite Reformation cashmere sweater. I find a navy matching set so chic right now.
