I’ve been wanting to do a post like this for the last couple of years, but never got around to it with the excitement leading up to the new year. But with an empty apartment, I finally had an opportunity to shoot my favorite purchases from this past year. I love that my style has gotten more defined through the years, and this year especially has been a turning point away from fast fashion and toward investing in versatile and timeless pieces. Below are seven pieces I wore to death in 2015 and predict will be at the forefront of my closet well into 2016 and beyond.
Helmut Lang blazer: I had been eyeing this particular blazer for about a year, but always hesitated at the $500+ price tag, which is why I pounced when it appeared on The Real Real in my size, and for under $150. I’ve been investing more and more in tailoring, and had the sleeves taken up to maintain the 3/4 look. See how I wore it here and here.
Levi’s boyfriend jeans: Another example of how a little tailoring goes a long way. I’d been searching high and low for a pair of distressed, light-wash boyfriend jeans in the perfect shade of faded blue, and the under $100 price point of these Levi’s pair was ideal. While I still wore them before deciding to get them tailored (see here), I love them even more after getting the waist and hips taken in for a slimmer fit.
Acne Studios cardigan: I love treating myself to a little something something before going on vacation, and this was the piece I chose when we went to London in September. It’s insanely warm, and the perfect effortless throw-over-everything cardi.
Topshop culotte jumpsuit: Speaking of London, I didn’t realize that Topshop marks up their retail prices stateside, so was pleasantly surprised that prices were cheaper in London, even despite the exchange rate. We stopped by their flagship in Oxford Circle 3-4 times during our trip, and I walked away with plenty of goodies, including this jumpsuit, which was an impulse buy. I own several pairs of culottes, but find that this pair fits me the best (it’s in petite sizing), and often wear it under tops and sweaters so it looks like pants.
Céline Trio bag: Aside from my laptop, this bag has been my most expensive purchase to date. I actually hate carrying purses and will often only bring along my phone, wallet, and keys when I leave the house, so I wanted something minimal, iconic, and small enough to accompany me without being a burden. This purchase from the Soho store was the ultimate indulgence, but I literally carry it everywhere.
Adidas Stan Smith Sneakers: I wanted an everyday white sneaker that were less sporty than my Nike Frees, and forked over the extra $25 to get them customized with the black heel patch. These are my most often worn shoes aside from my Acnes.
Acne Studios Jensen ankle boots: Last, but not least, my beloved Acne boots— I purchased these ahead of our NYC trip in May, and absolutely love them. I had tabs put on the heels, and got them water proofed to ensure they last me years to come.
I’d love to hear what you guys bought and loved this year. Share in the comments below!
